OUR Company

Aleutian Spray Fisheries, Inc., was among the pioneers of the Americanization of vast stocks of Bering Sea groundfish that had formerly been harvested, processed and marketed by foreign fleets.

Aleutian Spray Fisheries, Inc. was established in 1969 by Naval Architect, Henry Swasand, with the acquisition of the crab vessel Aleutian Spray.

As the firm grew during the 1970's, due to the rapid growth in the Bering Sea King crab fishery, other members of the Swasand family joined their father. Today, a third generation of Swasands is active in the management of Aleutian Spray Fisheries.

During the crab industry's peak, the Aleutian Spray Fisheries fleet grew to include the fishing vessels Starfish, Nordic Star, Starward and Starlite. Each vessel was built in Pacific Northwest shipyards to the Swasand family's exacting specifications.

In 1989 Aleutian Spray Fisheries Built the 240’ State of the Art Pollock Catcher Processor Starbound at Dakota Creek Industries, in Anacortes, WA.

In 2016 The company brought the Starbound back to Dakota Creek to lengthened and modernized the factory, by adding a 40 foot midsection, which included a fishmeal/oil plant and secondary surimi line.

At the end of 2021 Starbound was sold to Trident Seafoods a longtime industry partner.

Today the firm and our partners have four longliners, the Siberian Sea, U.S. Liberator, Arctic Prowler and Ocean Prowler. which catch and process Pacific Cod using longline gear in the Bering Sea Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The fleet also includes the crab vessel Kiska Sea, and the Trawler Nordic Star.

The firm was among the pioneers of the Americanization of vast stocks of Bering Sea groundfish that had formerly been harvested, processed and marketed by foreign fleets.

Along with the quality and capability of its vessels, versatility has long been a trademark of Aleutian Spray Fisheries, Inc.
